PROSTHETICS

Prosthodontics is a branch of dentistry that deals with reconstructing the patient’s teeth. For a long time, imperfect dentures were the only way to replace missing teeth in the mouth. Nowadays, Mio-Dent offers many solutions to reconstruct single teeth, dental arches and even the entire dentition. The reconstruction method is tailored individually to each client, who can enjoy a perfect smile again.

It should be remembered that missing teeth lead to many unpleasant consequences. For obvious reasons, there are problems with chewing. Food is instinctively chewed with the healthier side, leading to uneven teeth wear. In addition, even a single cavity can support them, which contributes to their weakening and loosening. Deficiencies in our teeth can also lead to one tooth making the forces in the mouth distribute completely differently. Fortunately, nowadays, there is more talk about the problems associated with cavities, thanks to which prosthetics are booming.

TYPES OF DENTURES

Dentures are divided into fixed and removable dentures. Fixed dentures are permanently fixed in our mouth, while removable ones are inserted and removed daily by the patient. It is worth remembering that the prosthodontist (a specialist in this field) assesses the situation and suggests the best solution.

Removable dentures can be partial (if several teeth are missing) or complete (used for toothlessness). They are also divided into acrylic, skeletal and overlay dentures. The most popular type is the acrylic denture, which is the cheapest and looks just like natural teeth. Its disadvantage, however, is that you have to get used to it (which can take up to several months). Skeletal dentures have visible metal brackets, which will make them more conspicuous. On the other hand, its design means no getting used to the process is needed. An overdenture is an acrylic denture that attaches to implants. It looks natural, and getting used to it is unnecessary. However, the process of preparing it is longer, as the placement of the implants and the healing of the gums must be considered. It may take some time to create. The patient will be invited for further fittings so that his denture will lie perfectly. Fixed dentures are fixed once every few or several years. These include veneers, crowns and bridges. Veneers are delicate caps that are used to improve the appearance of the front teeth. The most popular among dentures are crowns, which replace the visible part of the tooth. They are made of metal, ceramic or porcelain. Bridges are interconnected crowns that make up for the absence of a minimum of three teeth. Both crowns and bridges can be attached to the remains of an abraded tooth (whose crown has been destroyed by disease) or to an implant. The prosthodontist at the first visit carefully reviews the patient’s situation, as not all fixed dentures will suit everyone.
